Frequently Asked
Questions
Do you guarantee your pups? Yes we do, you can read a basic outline
of our guarantee at the link to your left.
How many shots do your pups have when the leave you? At 8 weeks
our pups have had 2 vaccinations and 2-3 de-wormings. All pups will
have age appropriate shots.
Where are your pups raised? In the house with us. Underfoot and in a
family situation. Our pups never see a kennel. We feel that in order to
make excellent companions and pets for our buyers, it is very
important they are highly socialized. In the summer, they spend a lot
of the day outside in a secure and large exercise pen if the weather is
nice, after they have been vaccinated. Our Momma's have very large
whelping pens and are on camera 24 hours a day, in our home. We
tore out all of the flooring in our house several years ago and put down
tiles. Best thing we ever did. Once the pups are mobile, they spend a
lot of time in our kitchen-dining room-office, motoring around,
getting highly socialized to all the sounds, scents and business of a
home.
If I want a baby to love, strictly as a pet, are AKC papers necessary?
No, many people wrongly assume that AKC papers are a measure of
quality or health. They aren't. A dog's papers do not determine its
health. 85% of all AKC dogs in the USA are pet quality only and would
never compete successfully in a ring. Some people who have no
intention of showing or breeding, still want AKC and they are available
on our pups unless otherwise noted in the pup's description. Pet
quality pups can still be AKC registered but their AKC will be limited.
Which means they themselves are AKC registered but cannot be
shown and if they are ever bred, their pups cannot be AKC registered.
There are many other registries that pups can be registered with.
Many, not all, are not credible.
Why are the pups priced differently? Many things determine a pup's
worth in dollars. Color, conformation etc. Our pet quality pups are
priced lower than our show potential babies. All pet only pups will be
sold on spay or neuter contract and AKC will be limited. Certain colors
are more expensive, and if a pup is show potential, the price is more.
To learn the prices of a blue French Bulldog, click on the MY BLUES
link. The label "SHOW QUALITY" is discussed at this link. Please be
aware that this is not the time to bargain shop. Do you really want to
buy the cheapest Bulldog you can find? Why are they cheap? A ton of
effort, time and money goes into a properly produced Bulldog. Can
you find cheaper? Yes you can. And you will get what you pay for. We
pay a small fortune for our breeding dogs. We insist on quality and
health and bloodlines. We pay another small fortune in excellent food,
care and breeding a healthy litter. Not all Bulldogs are created equal.
We strive to produce healthy and beautiful pups here. The care and
attention we pay to this commands a higher price tag. In return, you
can be certain that we have done it correctly and with ethics.
Can you ship my pup? Yes we can. You can read more about that at
shipping link, above. Yes it is safe. We would not do it if it weren't.
What is normal after my pup comes home? A pup that has just left us
has almost certainly also left its litter mates unless it is the last pup
here. They have been weaned well before leaving us. Give your pup
time to settle in his new home with you, his new people. Stress can
manifest itself in many ways and it is very important that you go slowly
and allow him time to adjust to his new life.
Are there certain things I can do to ease my pup's transition from your
house to mine? Yes. We find that a lot of people really want to show
their new puppy off. This is fine and we are happy you are proud of
your baby. However, he is stressed, does not matter how much you
love him. You really need to hold off on a lot of activity for the first 2-3
weeks. NO dog parks or places where other dogs visit a lot!! Your pup
is current on shots and de-wormings BUT he is not completely done
and in no way immune to the many things which can make a puppy ill
and are ALWAYS present at places such as dog parks. They have
young immune systems too. Too much activity and excitement is
detrimental to his health. Give him some time to settle in!
Do you require a deposit to hold my pup? Yes we do. We will not hold
any pup, no matter how much interest you imply, without a deposit.
More on that at the link above.
What health issues affect these breeds? Every pure breed has some
issues that are more prevalent. You can read about them at the link
above.
What is best way to house train? We like crate training but it must be
done properly to be affective. A properly crate trained animal will not
only accept but grow to love his crate. There are many books and links
on the WWW that will tell you how to do this. Do a search on crate
training and you will find them.
Are your pups house trained? No. They are started on good, clean
habits. House training is a process and it takes quite a while to teach a
pup to be trustworthy in a home. I will never claim that any pup is
100%. Even an adult who is housebroken here, may need a refresher
course upon arriving to you. In addition, it is impossible for a pup
that is younger than 4-6 months to hold it any longer than a few
hours. Any breeder telling you that their pups are crate, paper or
house trained under the age of 4 months is not being truthful. House
training is a process that takes several months to teach when they are
old enough to gain any sort of bladder and bowel control. Be patient
and consistent.
My pup eats his feces, is this normal? Yes as offensive as that is to us.
Good mothers work very hard to keep the whelping area clean. It is her
instinct. Pups learn everything from their mothers in the first couple
of months. When I say mothers keep it clean, I mean they eat their
pups' feces. There are a few oral medications to help break this habit.
Forbid and Deter are 2 of them. Some people say using meat
tenderizer on the food helps. I carry a bottle of the hottest hot sauce I
can find and when the pup does his job, I sprinkle that on there as
quick as I can. If you are consistent, it will break them of this habit.
We have noticed that you seem to have a few litters of pups all around
the same time, then none for months. What's up with that? My girls
all have access to each other. They play, sleep and hang out together,
all the time. Therefore, when one of them cycles, they all sort of follow
along. It is a chain reaction. We have a few which seem to be
mavericks, that is, they follow their own drummer, however, most
cycle one right after another, or together. Also this is not my only
"job". I maintain a very large website for a corporation and do dictation
for Human Services. We do not always have puppies available.
What is the difference between show potential and pet quality? The
answer to that is discussed in depth HERE.
Why do I have to pay more for full AKC? We offer 2 prices on most of
our pups. Those that are truly pet quality only, will not be offered with
full AKC rights. The AKC allows breeders to give 2 types of
registration, full and limited. All of our pups are AKC and you will get
AKC papers on each. As explained above, we limit pet quality
registration and offer it on our show potential pups too. Some people
do not want to breed or show their dog. Some people do. If you
purchase a pup from us with full AKC, you have the right to show or
breed that pup, should you chose to do so. If you chose limited AKC,
your puppy will be AKC registered but its offspring cannot be and you
cannot compete in AKC breed competition. It a means of quality
control that many breeders use. You are not paying us for AKC papers,
every pup has them. You are either purchasing a pet or a dog will full
rights. In addition, pups sold with full AKC will have the prefix, PLB's.
We are proud of our pups and like to claim them as having come from
us. You may name your puppy whatever you like, but PLB's will be the
prefix to his/her name.
What is line breeding? Line breeding, when done correctly, is studying
of pedigrees (bloodlines) and mating dogs who share a common
ancestor close up. We have found (and many have know for years)
the only way to truly "stick" that is, consistently produce a certain type
is to line breed and then sprinkle in outcrossed lines. Our best dogs
were produced this way. If you breed unrelated to unrelated dogs over
and over, what is produced is anyone's guess. Genetics are a funny
thing. Most CH. dogs are line bred. A bulldog breeder once said to me
line breeding is this... Look at a dog, ask yourself, do you want to see
that again? If the answer is yes, you line breed. Of course it must be
done carefully with more than just looks considered. We always
consider type, temperament and health.
We have called you and left a message. When will you call us back? As
I said elsewhere on my site, I do not have enough time to call back
everyone that calls me. There are times when I get 15+ phone calls in a
day. If you figure each returned phone call takes a minimum of 25
minutes(some of you are much longer winded :) ) you can see why
I do not have the time. You will find email a much faster and much
more reliable way to get in touch with me and have all your questions
answered. We welcome your questions and will do our very best to
answer them. However, we appreciate and respond the fastest to
email. I simply do not have the time to sit on the phone all day. It
would be great if I could, as dogs are my favorite subject. But life
intervenes. My real jobs put me at my computer every day. While you
are waiting for me to catch up on my phone calls, chances are very
good that someone has emailed me on the same pup and has been
answered and may have already placed a deposit or purchased that
pup. If you really want one of my pups, EMAIL ME. We can
certainly at one point, speak on the phone but email will
always be quicker. As stated above, I do dictation and can
type very quickly and am usually at my computer.
